Davide Groppi. The art of leaving out.
Born in the late 1980s in a small workshop in the old town of Piacenza, Davide Groppi makes light itself the design. His luminaires are reduced to the essential – simplicity, lightness and emotion, until in the end almost nothing but light remains.
What Davide Groppi stands for.
Davide Groppi began building luminaires in the late 1980s in a small workshop in the old town of Piacenza – out of the conviction that a lamp should only come into being when it contributes something necessary or meaningful. To this day, the house follows that stance: switching light off to illuminate – switching light on to tell a story.
Its best-known designs are exercises in radical reduction: Nulla – a point of light in the ceiling, nothing more –, the bamboo floor lamp Sampei, the luminous paper moon Moon and the vertical line of light Anima. Nulla and Sampei received the Compasso d’Oro in 2014, Anima followed in 2024; TeTaTeT and FM earned honourable mentions.
A special relationship connects Davide Groppi with haute cuisine: the house’s luminaires set the stage for tables at chefs such as Massimo Bottura, Albert Adrià and Carlo Cracco – and for spaces like the Quirinal Palace in Rome.
Davide Groppi is the founder, namesake and creative mind of the house – many designs are his own, while others emerge in dialogue with a small circle of designers.
Today the company is part of the Italian design group Dexelance; development and production remain in Piacenza.

We plan independently of any manufacturer, choose the right luminaire for each room and task – and take care of sampling and sourcing.
