As an architecture firm, we need a partner who thinks about technology the way we think about space. enlivion's switch and lighting plan was the first that took our materiality seriously – down to the choice of button surfaces.
The refurbishment ran while the building stayed in operation – yet the new controls for lighting, climate and access were switched over in a single weekend. The planning had thought through every interface beforehand instead of repairing it afterwards.
We wanted to know whether AI could be more than a buzzword in our operations. enlivion analysed our recurring processes and automated them – today agents handle the routine, and our team handles the rest.

Does enlivion only plan – or also build?
Both. The core is vendor-neutral planning of the entire building technology: lighting, shading, climate, audio, security, networking and their automation. On request, we additionally take on full responsibility for the execution as general contractor: one contract, one point of contact – the work is carried out by vetted specialist firms, coordinated and answered for by enlivion, through to a documented handover. The GC scope: complete electrical installation, KNX or Loxone systems, light, shading, audio, networking and security technology.
Why does enlivion build on KNX?
KNX is the open global standard for building automation, backed by hundreds of manufacturers. That means: no dependence on a single brand or a single installer, spare parts and extensions for decades to come, and complete freedom in design and functionality – from the ekinex button to AI-powered logic.
KNX or Loxone – which is better?
The wrong question – it depends on the project. KNX is the open world standard and our foundation; we have mastered Loxone for more than twelve years as one of Austria’s longest-standing Loxone partners, today with Gold partner status. The combination of both worlds has proven itself best: KNX as the manufacturer-neutral base infrastructure, Loxone as visualisation and logic layer. We advise neutrally on which solution – or which combination – fits your project.
What is ekinex, and what does exclusive distribution mean?
ekinex is an Italian manufacturer of KNX control devices – push buttons, switches, room controllers, touch panels and door entry systems of exceptional material and design quality. enlivion distributes ekinex exclusively in Austria: consulting, sampling and purchasing run directly through us.
At what stage should we bring enlivion into a building project?
Ideally in the design phase, alongside the architect – that's when cable routing, switch positions and technical spaces can be planned without compromise. But we can still achieve a lot mid-planning or in existing buildings; it's just that re-planning gets more expensive with every stage of construction than planning ahead.
Can an existing building be retrofitted?
Yes. In existing buildings we combine – depending on substance and budget – bus-based retrofitting as part of a refurbishment with wireless components. An on-site survey shows which mix makes sense.
What does smart home planning cost?
That depends on the size and ambition of the project – a flat rate quoted without knowing the project would not be serious. After an initial consultation you receive a clear, staged proposal: from concept through detailed planning to supervision of the installation. The initial consultation is free of obligation.
What does AI automation have to do with building technology?
More than you might think: the same mindset we use to automate building processes, we apply to business processes – from intelligent automation logic in the building to AI agents that take over recurring tasks in companies. And we are working on our own software that redefines building technology.
