Oluce. Italian lighting culture since 1945.

Oluce is the oldest still-active lighting manufactory of Italian design. Founded in Milan in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, the brand stands for designs that remain valid across generations – above all the “Atollo” by Vico Magistretti.

The brand

What Oluce stands for.

Founded in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian design company in the field of lighting still in existence today. Over the decades, the Milanese house gathered some of Italy's most important designers – and created luminaires that have long since become icons.

The most famous example is the “Atollo 233” by Vico Magistretti (1977): cylinder, cone and hemisphere joined into an archetypal table lamp, honoured with the Compasso d'Oro. Alongside it stand designs by Joe Colombo – whose “Spider” also received the Compasso d'Oro – as well as works by Tito Agnoli and Marco Zanuso; several of them are now shown at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.

With its “Bespoke” department, Oluce also produces made-to-measure lighting solutions for hotels and contract projects.

Design

Founder Giuseppe Ostuni made Oluce an early platform for the avant-garde of Italian design. Vico Magistretti shaped the brand for decades – alongside the “Atollo”, with designs such as the “Sonora”.

Joe Colombo designed some of his most important luminaires for Oluce, including the “Spider” and the “Coupé” – classics that remain in the collection to this day.
