Lindsey Adelman. Sculptures of glass and brass.
Lindsey Adelman turned light into sculpture: her studio, founded in New York in 2006, combines hand-blown glass with industrially made components. Her modular systems – above all the Branching Bubble chandelier – rank among the icons of contemporary American lighting design.
What Lindsey Adelman stands for.
Lindsey Adelman studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design and founded her studio in New York in 2006 – with the Branching Bubble chandelier as its first product. The branching structure of brass arms and hand-blown glass globes turned modularity into a poetic principle and is still being developed further today.
The studio pairs the warmth of hand-blown glass with the industrial precision of machined components. The result is luminaires that celebrate light as much as shadow and emptiness – systems such as Cherry Bomb, Drop System, Kingdom and Paradise can be composed anew for every space.
Today a team of around 40 artists, designers and craftspeople in New York and Los Angeles works on serial pieces, bespoke commissions and experimental editions.
Lindsey Adelman is one of the defining figures of American studio design. Her designs are created in her own New York atelier; every luminaire is made by hand and can be individually configured in size, glass colour and metal finish.
