Bocci. Light as sculpture.
Founded in Vancouver in 2005, Bocci has redefined the hand-blown glass pendant. Under the creative direction of Omer Arbel, the studio creates sculptural luminaires and expansive installations that move between design, craft and art.
What Bocci stands for.
Bocci is a design and manufacturing house with roots in Vancouver, founded in 2005. At its centre is the experiment with glass: each series emerges from its own craft technique and carries a number instead of a name – its position in the ongoing catalogue of works of its designer, Omer Arbel.
Icons such as series 14 with its cast glass spheres and the organically shaped series 28 brought Bocci international renown. Individual pendants grow into entire landscapes of light: installations of dozens to hundreds of elements that transform lobbies, stairwells and exhibitions into luminous sculptures.
Bocci manufactures in its own workshops and regularly presents its work in exhibitions – most recently in New York to mark its twentieth anniversary, and in an apartment of its own in Milan.
Omer Arbel, architect and designer, is co-founder and creative mind of Bocci. He regards his designs as ongoing material experiments and numbers them chronologically – the luminaire series 14, 28 and 93 are chapters of this catalogue of works.
Arbel is drawn to the moment when material can no longer be fully controlled: glass, copper or porcelain only find their final form in the making – which turns every Bocci luminaire into a unique piece.
Bocci in your project.
We plan independently of any manufacturer, choose the right luminaire for each room and task – and take care of sampling and sourcing.
