Apparatus. The sensuality of modernism.

Apparatus understands luminaires as objects that charge a space: founded in 2012, the New York atelier combines hand-patinated brass with marble, porcelain, leather and lacquer. Every piece is made in the studio’s own New York workshop – in small series and with a palpable signature.

The brand

What Apparatus stands for.

Apparatus was founded in New York in 2012 by Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson. The interdisciplinary studio explores the interplay of luminaires, furniture and objects in space – with an attitude that reconciles modern rigour and sensuality.

In its own New York workshop, sensual materials such as marble, suede, horsehair, lacquer and porcelain meet hand-patinated brass. The studio deliberately seeks the tension between machine perfection and the beautiful irregularity of the hand.

Collections such as Cloud, Lantern, Median, Circuit and Arrow are presented in the studio’s own galleries in New York, Los Angeles and London – as total stagings that make the atelier character of the brand tangible.

Design

Gabriel Hendifar leads Apparatus as artistic director and CEO; together with co-founder Jeremy Anderson he built the studio from 2012. Hendifar understands objects as companions to human experience – an attitude that shapes every collection of the house.
